Gingerbread houses are the Grinch of Christmas!

I thought it would be fun to do a gingerbread house with KaeLynn this year. I wanted it to be easy, so I bought one of the kits at the store. I decided that for dinner we would have frozen pizza, so that it would be quick and cleaned up and then we could make the gingerbread house for FHE. Well, for the first time since we were married, I burned the dinner. LOL. Strike one. Not that Josch gets mad or anything, but I was annoyed. So, we ate the toppings off the pizza and threw the rest of the way. Then I got everything out of the gingerbread kit. Six pages of instructions. The first part I read said that you have to wait for an hour after putting it together to decorate it. Ugh! Strike Two. I wanted this to be a painless process, one that was completed in less than half an hour. I figured I better get started on this, even though there was no way in heck I was going to wait for an hour before I let KL decorate, especially after I woke her up to do this! I mixed up the frosting stuff (which had to be beaten for 4 minutes with a mixer...what a joke) and then started putting the walls and roof together. It was not working. It would not stay in place. I figured that it might help if I did this project on a flat surface instead of the stove(duh), so I started carrying it over to the table and dropped half of it on the floor. Two of the pieces shattered and there was no way I was going to be able to use them. Strike Three. I was ready to be done. I almost threw the whole thing in the garbage, but was too stubborn to do that. After all, I spent almost $8 on the stupid thing (and that was on sale). Still, the walls were not sticking together with the frosting stuff, so I pulled out the hot glue gun. Nope, that didnt work either. I had had enough, so I went to bed. Here were the two pictures from last night...
KL had fun for about five minutes!

See the fire in my eyes?!? This was me saying a Hail Mary!

So, today I thought we would finish the project. Not too bad I guess, except for the roof had to be used as the house. Here is the final project...

She was happy to decorate it, and thats all that matters I guess.

What? You didnt burn yourself with the hot glue gun? That would have been the kicker! LOL.
Dang, that sucks. Good effort though!

but you have the memories right? We usually use a glue gun to set up the house before we decorate it. sorry it was such a hassle, but doesn't seem to always happen that way? At least for me anyway.

haha! Sounds like how our gingerbread decorating went this year. :) Sorry, Heidi, but I'm still laughing. But I'm laughing with you, not at you. ;)
